چکیده

In this paper we define an operational semantics for functional logic languages covering notions like laziness, sharing, concurrency, non-determinism, etc. Such a semantics is not only important to provide appropriate language definitions to reason about programs and check the correctness of implementations but it is also a basis to develop languagespecific tools, like program tracers, profilers, optimizers, etc. First, we define a “big-step” semantics in natural style to relate expressions and their evaluated results. Since this semantics is not sufficient to cover concurrency, search strategies, or to reason about costs associated to particular computations, we also define a “small-step” operational semantics covering the features of modern functional logic languages.

Operational semantics for declarative multi-paradigm languages

Declarative multi-paradigm languages combine the most important features of functional, logic and concurrent programming. The computational model of such integrated languages is usually based on a combination of two different operational principles: narrowing and residuation. This work is motivated by the fact that a precise definition of an operational semantics including all aspects of modern...

Declarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey

One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...

An Operational Semantics for Declarative Multi - Paradigm Languages ? Elvira Albert

Practical declarative multi-paradigm languages combine the main features of functional, logic and concurrent programming (e.g., laziness, sharing, higher-order, logic variables, non-determinism, search strategies). Usually, these languages also include interfaces to external functions as well as to constraint solvers. In this work, we introduce the first formal description of an operational sem...

A Memoizing Semantics for Functional Logic Languages

Declarative multi-paradigm languages combine the main features of functional and logic programming, like laziness, logic variables and non-determinism. The operational semantics of these languages is based on a combination of narrowing and residuation. In this article, we introduce a non-standard memoizing semantics for multi-paradigm declarative programs and prove its equivalence with the stan...

A residualizing semantics for the partial evaluation of functional logic programs

Recent proposals for multi-paradigm declarative programming combine the most important features of functional, logic and concurrent programming into a single framework. The operational semantics of these languages is usually based on a combination of narrowing and residuation. In this note, we introduce a non-standard, residualizing semantics for multi-paradigm declarative programs and prove it...
